Schlendern Sie beispielsweise durch das Viertel U Street, das historische Herz der afrikanisch-amerikanischen Gemeinde, wo einst die Jazz-Legende Duke Ellington lebte – heute ein eleganter Bezirk mit Shops, Cafés und Lounges. Oder wenn Sie lieber in den Boutiquen von Georgetown einkaufen, besuchen Sie auch Old Stone House auf der M Street – das älteste private Wohnhaus in der US-Hauptstadt. 

Museen & Sehenswürdigkeiten

Neben den charakteristischen Stadtvierteln gibt es in Washington, DC genug Museen, um die Besucher tagelang zu beschäftigen. Sehen Sie sich Gebilde der Pop-Kultur in der Smithsonian-Einrichtung National Museum of American History an, darunter gefeierte Ikonen wie Kermit, der Frosch, die Küche von Julia Child und die rubinroten Slipper von Judy Garland aus „Der Zauberer von Oz“.

Begeben Sie sich als verdeckter Ermittler ins International Spy Museum, das besonders bei Kindern sehr beliebt ist. Im Ford’s Theatre können Sie sehen, wo Abraham Lincoln erschossen wurde. Gehen Sie anschließend über die Straße zum Peterson House, wo Lincoln am folgenden Morgen starb.

Und natürlich ist eine Reise in die Hauptstadt Amerikas ohne ein Foto vor dem Weißen Haus undenkbar, das seit über 200 Jahren Machtsitz und Zuhause der US-Präsidenten ist.
